EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this photograph of the Brewery Tap pub in Sheerness, Kent, as it looked in the 1930s. The image, taken in 1931, showcases the pub's distinctive facade, with its ornate brickwork and large, arched windows. The Charrington and Company Limited sign above the entrance is a testament to the pub's rich brewing history. The Brewery Tap was a beloved local establishment, with a trading record dating back to 1924. For over three decades, it served as a gathering place for the community, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere for patrons to enjoy a pint and good company. As you gaze at this vintage photograph, you can almost hear the clinking of glasses and the lively chatter of patrons. The pub's inviting exterior beckons you to take a seat and soak in the history and charm of this bygone era. Sadly, like so many pubs of its time, the Brewery Tap did not escape the tide of change. By July 2018, it had been transformed into a Ladbrokes bookmakers shop. But for those of us who appreciate the history and character of traditional British pubs, this photograph serves as a reminder of the past and the stories it holds. Join us in celebrating the rich history of the Brewery Tap and the many memories it holds for generations of Sheerness residents. This photograph is part of the National Brewery Heritage Trust collection, available for purchase from Mary Evans Prints Online.
