EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the corner view of the historic Boatmans Arms pub in Brighton, Sussex, a beloved local watering hole that once stood proudly in Kemp Town. The image, taken by an unknown photographer, showcases the pub's distinctive red brick facade adorned with ornate white detailing and the iconic Boatmans Arms sign. The Boatmans Arms was a cherished part of the community, having served generations of locals and visitors since the late 1800s. The pub was owned by the Brighton and Hove Brewery Company Limited, a local brewery that played a significant role in the social and economic fabric of Brighton. The Boatmans Arms was not just a place to quench one's thirst but also a hub for lively conversation, camaraderie, and local history. Sadly, as of July 2018, the Boatmans Arms met its demise, demolished to make way for Churchill Square, a large shopping center. The loss of this historic pub was deeply felt by the community, leaving many with fond memories and a sense of nostalgia for the days when the Boatmans Arms stood as a beacon of warmth and hospitality in Brighton's vibrant Kemp Town scene.
