EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Adam & Eve Public House in West Ham, London, as it looked in the 1950s. Located at E15 3LZ, this historic pub was a beloved institution in the community for several decades. The image, taken by an unknown photographer, shows the intricate details of the building's brickwork and the ornate signage that once adorned the establishment. The reverse of this print reveals fascinating insights into the pub's history. According to the trading record, the Adam & Eve was in operation from 1938 to 1966. The building was demolished in May 1994, and sadly, the street where it once stood no longer exists. The pub was once part of the Charrington and Company Limited estate, a prominent name in the British brewing industry during the 20th century. This photograph is a poignant reminder of a bygone era in London's rich history. It invites us to imagine the stories and memories that were created within its walls, and to reflect on the ever-changing landscape of our cities. The Adam & Eve Public House may no longer be with us, but its legacy lives on through images like this one. This photograph is part of the National Brewery Heritage Trust collection, available for purchase from Mary Evans Prints Online.
