The Mystery of Santa Claus,

EDITORS COMMENTS
an illustrated poem by Molly Benatar, captures the magical essence of Christmas Eve in this enchanting 1921 print. The scene unfolds as children, nestled in their beds, drift off to sleep, their peaceful faces framed by the soft glow of night. Above them, Santa's helpers weave a delicate web of dreams, their tiny, nimble fingers leaving a trail of magic in the air. Elves and pixies, clad in their traditional green attire, flit about the room, their mischievous grins hinting at the delightful secrets they hold. The rooftops outside are bathed in the soft, ethereal glow of the moon, and the night air is filled with the promise of wonder and excitement. Santa Claus, the jolly, bearded figure at the heart of the scene, gazes through his telescope, his eyes twinkling with the knowledge of the dreams he is about to deliver. The room is filled with a sense of enchantment, as the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, and the magic of Christmas Eve takes hold. This image, with its festive, dreamlike quality, invites us to believe in the magic of the season, and to remember the sense of wonder and excitement that comes with the arrival of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. The poem's timeless message, beautifully captured in Benatar's illustration, reminds us that the magic of Christmas is not just for children, but for all of us, and that the belief in the impossible is what makes the holiday truly special.
