EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the exterior view of the Metropolitan Convalescent Home at Cooden, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, in the 1950s. The Metropolitan Convalescent Home was a beautiful, large building completed in 1905 and boasted an impressive terrace overlooking the sea. The home provided a tranquil and restorative environment for its residents, offering them the opportunity to recover in the fresh sea air. The image showcases the home's grandeur with its tall, elegant windows, adorned with intricate stone detailing, and the sweeping staircase leading down to the lush, green grounds. The building's design seamlessly blended in with its coastal surroundings, creating a picturesque scene. The Metropolitan Convalescent Home was a beloved institution in the community, and its presence added to the charm of Cooden and Bexhill-on-Sea. The police station, located nearby, is visible in the background, adding a sense of security and peace of mind for both the residents and the local community.
