Up With The Lark

EDITORS COMMENTS
was a musical comedy production adapted from the French play "Le Zebre" by Douglas Furber, with music by Philip Brahms. The promotional postcard for this production, dated 1928, features an image of a biplane soaring through the sky with the title "Up With The Lark" written across the plane's wings. Tiny portraits of the show's characters peek out of the windows, adding a playful touch to the image. The musical comedy premiered at the Playhouse in Cardiff on July 25, 1927, and later transferred to the Adelphi Theatre in London on August 25, 1927. The production then embarked on a tour, stopping at the Hippodrome in Lewisham on February 24, 1928. The use of an aeroplane in the promotional material reflects the excitement and innovation of the 1920s, a decade marked by technological advancements and cultural shifts. The image of the plane in flight also alludes to the title of the show, "Up With The Lark," which suggests starting the day with enthusiasm and energy, much like the early morning song of the lark. "Up With The Lark" was one of many comedic musical productions that flourished during the 1920s, providing entertainment and escapism for audiences amidst the social and economic changes of the time. The postcard serves as a fascinating glimpse into the past, offering a glimpse into the marketing strategies and cultural trends of the era.
