Bevelled wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 archival quality photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, the Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: To minimise original artwork cropping, for optimum layout, and to ensure print is secure, the visible print may be marginally smaller

Title: "Johannes Secundus: The Dutch Poet Who Challenged Orthodoxy in the Sixteenth Century" Johannes Secundus, born Jan Nicolai Everaerts, was a Dutch poet and humanist who lived during the tumultuous sixteenth century. This evocative portrait captures the intellectual intensity and rebellious spirit of this influential figure. Born in Delft, Netherlands, in 1511, Secundus was educated in the classical tradition and became a prominent member of the Dutch humanist circle. However, his poetic voice was marked by a radical departure from the orthodoxy of the time. Secundus' work challenged the religious and social norms of the day. His most famous poem, "De Waerheden," or "The Truths," was a scathing critique of the Catholic Church and its corrupt practices. This bold work, published in 1535, earned him the ire of the Church authorities and led to his arrest and imprisonment. Despite the danger, Secundus continued to write and publish, using his poetry as a vehicle for social and religious reform. His work influenced a generation of Dutch poets and thinkers, and helped pave the way for the Dutch Reformation. Tragically, Secundus' life was cut short. He was executed in 1536, at the age of just 25, for his outspoken views.
