EDITORS COMMENTS
This image, titled 'The Hatter Running,' is a delightful and enigmatic print from the whimsical world of Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' published in 1865. The Hatter, a beloved and eccentric character from the story, is depicted in mid-run, with a teapot and a slice of bread precariously balanced in one hand, and his hat and shoes in the other. His wild, mad grin and disheveled appearance add to the sense of chaos and adventure that pervades Wonderland. The Hatter's unconventional attire and peculiar behavior have captivated readers for over a century, making him an iconic figure in literary history. This print, with its intricate details and vibrant colors, offers a glimpse into the fantastical world that Carroll created. The teapot, with its ornate design and steaming spout, adds a touch of elegance and whimsy to the scene, while the bread and tea suggest the Hatter's quirky and unconventional habits. The print also serves as a reminder of the rich history of illustrated books and the role they played in shaping popular culture. Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' was one of the first works to popularize the use of elaborate illustrations in children's literature, paving the way for future classics such as 'Peter Rabbit' and 'The Wind in the Willows.'
