Bevelled wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 archival quality photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, the Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. This photograph captures the iconic figure of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian nationalist leader who played a pivotal role in the Italian unification movement during the 19th century. Born in Nice, France, in 1807, Garibaldi spent much of his early life at sea as a sailor before becoming involved in various political and revolutionary causes. The image, taken by the renowned Scottish photographer John Thompson Stodart (1823-1867), captures Garibaldi in his later years, with a stern yet determined expression on his face. He is dressed in his signature red shirt, a symbol of the volunteers who fought alongside him in the Risorgimento, the Italian movement for independence, unity, and self-governance. Garibaldi's most famous military campaign took place in 1860, when he led a group of volunteers, known as the "Thousand," from Sicily to mainland Italy, ultimately contributing to the fall of the Bourbon monarchy and the unification of the country under King Victor Emmanuel II. Despite his significant contributions to Italian history, Garibaldi's life was not without controversy. He was known for his radical political views and his unconventional military tactics, which often put him at odds with more traditional leaders. However, his charisma and dedication to the cause of Italian unification made him a beloved figure among the Italian people.
