EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: A Saucy Surprise at the Altar: A Humorous Look into Wedding Traditions of the 1910s This charming, yet cheeky postcard captures the playful spirit of a bride and groom's special day in the early 1900s. The image depicts the couple standing in front of their vicar, exchanging their wedding vows. The bride, adorned in her elegant white veil and gown, holds an unexpected accessory - a bouquet of flowers, but not just any flowers. In her other hand, she proudly cradles a cabbage, a bawdy symbol of newlywed bliss and fertility. The groom, with a mischievous grin on his face, supports his bride's hand, which is holding the cabbage, while the vicar looks on, seemingly amused by the unexpected turn of events. The caption above the scene reads, "to have and to hold - until death us do part..." adding to the humorous quip of the moment. This saucy postcard is a delightful reminder of the lighter side of wedding traditions in the 1910s, showcasing the fun and silly aspects of the nuptial celebrations. It is a wonderful representation of the human spirit and the playful nature of love and marriage, even during a time when such open displays of humor might have been considered quite bold. The postcard, with its bawdy humor and historical significance, is an intriguing glimpse into the past, offering a unique perspective on the traditions and values of a bygone era. It is a fun and silly reminder of the enduring power of love and laughter, making it a cherished piece for any collection of vintage postcards or wedding memorabilia.
