EDITORS COMMENTS
This powerful and historical print captures the essence of the women's suffrage movement in early 20th century Britain. Flora Drummond, also known as "The General," and Phyllis Ayrton are seen campaigning tirelessly for Christabel Pankhurst in Smethwick during the 1918 and 1919 elections.
Christabel Pankhurst represented the Women's Party during this time, fighting for equal rights and advocating for women's suffrage. The determination and passion of these three women is palpable in this image, as they work together to bring about change and progress in a male-dominated society.
The significance of this moment in history cannot be understated. These women were pioneers, breaking barriers and challenging societal norms to secure basic rights that many take for granted today. Their dedication to the cause is evident in their every gesture and expression captured by Mary Evans Picture Library.
As we reflect on this image, we are reminded of the importance of standing up for what we believe in, even when faced with adversity. The legacy of these brave women lives on through their actions and serves as an inspiration to all who continue to fight for equality and justice.
