EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning relief from the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris during the Ptolemaic Dynasty in Egypt around the 2nd century BC, showcases the intricate detail and artistic mastery of ancient Egyptian art. The relief depicts Sekhmet, the powerful lion-headed goddess of war, crowned with the solar disk and a cobra. Sekhmet was a significant deity in ancient Egyptian mythology, revered for her protective role against enemies and diseases. Her lion head represented her fierce and fearsome nature, while the solar disk and cobra symbolized her association with the sun and her role as a goddess of healing.
