EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a glimpse into the past with an early typing pool at the Typing Office of the Society for the Employment of Women in 1889. In this historical image, we see women hard at work on manual typewriters, showcasing their skills and dedication to their craft. During this time period, typing was seen as one of the few employment opportunities available to women, making it a symbol of equality and empowerment. The Victorian era brought about significant advancements in technology and communication, leading to more opportunities for women to enter the workforce. The Typing Office represents a pivotal moment in history where women were able to showcase their talents and contribute to society through their work. It serves as a reminder of the progress that has been made in terms of gender equality and equal rights in the workplace. As we look back on this image from over a century ago, we are reminded of the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions that women have made throughout history. The dedication and hard work displayed by these women serve as inspiration for future generations striving for equality and empowerment in all aspects of life.
