EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a pivotal moment in the history of 20th century philosophy and theatre. The image features three prominent figures: Enrique Diosdado, Carmen Maura, and Jean-Paul Sartre. Diosdado, a Spanish actor, is seen engaging with Sartre, the renowned French existentialist philosopher and writer, as Maura, a Spanish actress, looks on. The year is 1980, and the trio is likely involved in a theatrical performance, reflecting Sartre's deep connection to the world of theatre. Sartre, born in 1905, was a towering figure in the realm of existentialist thought, challenging conventional notions of human nature, freedom, and consciousness. His groundbreaking works, including "Being and Nothingness," "Existentialism is a Humanism," and "No Exit," continue to influence philosophical discourse and cultural thought to this day. Maura, born in 1951, was a prolific Spanish actress who graced both the stage and the silver screen with her talent. Her collaboration with Diosdado and Sartre represents an intriguing intersection of theatre and philosophy, showcasing the enduring relevance of existentialist ideas in the arts. This photograph is a testament to the rich history of intellectual exchange and artistic collaboration between France and Spain, as well as the enduring influence of Sartre's ideas on the world of theatre. A true treasure for scholars, historians, and anyone interested in the intersection of philosophy and the arts.
