EDITORS COMMENTS
This enchanting illustration, titled "Characters of Peter Pan," was created by the renowned artist H.M. Brock for The Sphere in 1920, providing a visual representation of J.M. Barrie's beloved children's play, Peter Pan. At the forefront of the procession, Peter Pan, the mischievous and ageless boy who refuses to grow up, is shown holding Wendy's hand, with her following closely behind. Wendy, the motherly figure, is the leader of the Lost Boys, who have joined Peter in his Neverland adventures. The illustration captures the magical and whimsical nature of Peter Pan's world, as it is populated by an array of fantastical characters. The Lost Boys, dressed in green tunics and red sashes, can be seen in the background, while the sinister figure of Captain Hook, the pirate king, lurks in the shadows, brandishing a hook for a hand and a menacing smile. Other characters, such as Tinker Bell, the fairy, and Crocodile, the fearsome reptile, add to the enchanting scene. Brock's illustration offers a glimpse into the history of Peter Pan, a play that continues to captivate audiences of all ages with its timeless themes of adventure, imagination, and the desire to never grow up. This illustration, with its intricate details and vivid colors, serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of J.M. Barrie's classic story and the magical world of Neverland.
