EDITORS COMMENTS
In the early 20th century, the world was fascinated by the mysterious and unexplained phenomena of psychic abilities. Among the most intriguing figures of that time was British medium Stella Cranshawe (1890-1945), whose psychic powers were investigated by renowned spiritualist and magician Harry Price (1881-1948). The photograph above, taken in 1923, captures a significant moment in their investigations. The image shows Stella Cranshawe holding a smoked tin plate, which bears distinct psychic structures, as documented by Price. The plate, which was used during one of their séances, was reportedly marked by various shapes and symbols that appeared during the session, seemingly inexplicably. Price, a skeptical investigator, was determined to uncover the truth behind these phenomena. He meticulously documented his investigations into Stella Cranshawe's abilities, conducting numerous experiments and tests to determine the authenticity of her psychic powers. The photograph is a testament to their collaborative efforts to understand the unknown. The photograph is part of the extensive collection of the National Library of Parapsychology (NLPR), held at the University of Rhode Island, and was taken by Frank C. Betts. The image provides a unique glimpse into the world of psychic investigations during the early 20th century, offering a fascinating look at the intersection of science, spirituality, and the unknown. Stella Cranshawe's story and her collaboration with Harry Price continue to captivate researchers and enthusiasts of the paranormal, as they delve deeper into the mysteries of the human mind and the unexplained phenomena that surround us.
