EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures a breathtaking view of the biblical village of Bethany, now known as al-Eizariya, located on the western bank of the Mount of Olives in the Holy Land. The image transports us back in time to the 1920s, a period of significant historical and cultural significance in the Middle East. Bethany is a place of great importance in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. According to Christian tradition, it is the site of the Tomb of Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead. The village is mentioned several times in the New Testament, and is believed to be the place where Jesus and his disciples often stayed during their travels in the region. In this photograph, we see a collection of stone buildings nestled among the rolling hills and olive groves. The Mount of Olives looms in the background, its rugged terrain dotted with trees and shrubs. The sense of history and spiritual significance is palpable, as the village has been inhabited continuously for over 2,000 years. Despite the passage of time, the village retains its unique character and charm. Today, it is a popular destination for pilgrims and tourists alike, who come to explore its rich history and spiritual heritage. The photograph serves as a reminder of the enduring allure of the Holy Land and the importance of preserving its cultural and historical treasures for future generations.
