Bevelled wood effect frame, card mounted, 15x10 archival quality photo print. Overall outside dimensions 21x16 inches (54x41cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. This print depicts the pivotal naval Battle of Navarino, which took place on October 20, 1827, in Navarino Bay, now known as Pylos, in the Peloponnese region of Greece. The battle marked a significant turning point in the Greek War of Independence (1821-1830), as a combined French, Russian, and British naval force successfully defeated the Turkish-Egyptian fleet of Sultan Ibrahim. The image showcases an age of grandeur and historical significance, with a multitude of ships from both sides engaged in fierce combat on the Ionian Sea. The allied fleet, consisting of French, British, and Russian ships, is seen on the left side of the image, their sails fully unfurled and cannons at the ready. On the right, the Turkish-Egyptian fleet, with its distinctive Ottoman flags flying high, is shown in disarray, some ships ablaze and others taking on water. This battle was a testament to the power of the European powers, who had united to support the Greek cause for independence from the Ottoman Empire. The victory at Navarino weakened the Ottoman naval presence in the Mediterranean and paved the way for the eventual recognition of Greek independence in 1830.
