EDITORS COMMENTS
This intriguing assortment of ephemera offers a glimpse into the past, with a particular focus on the Toc H movement during the First World War. The Toc H, or Taliesin Fellowship, was a British organization founded in 1915 to provide support for soldiers and civilians affected by the war. This collection of items reflects the diverse range of materials produced and distributed by the organization. At the center of the print is a Toc H postcard, featuring a simple yet striking design of the organization's emblem - a dove holding an olive branch - against a red background. Surrounding the postcard are various other items, including a Toc H membership card, a newspaper clipping reporting on a Toc H event, and a piece of sheet music for a Toc H hymn. The ephemera also includes a topographical map of the Western Front, highlighting key locations such as Ypres, Verdun, and the Somme. This map would have been invaluable to soldiers and their families, providing a visual representation of the battlefields and helping to keep them connected to the war effort. Other items in the collection include a Toc H newsletter, a letter from a soldier to his family, and a photograph of a Toc H canteen. Together, these items tell the story of the Toc H movement and the vital role it played in supporting those affected by the First World War. This assortment of ephemera provides a unique and poignant insight into the history of the Toc H movement and the impact it had on the lives of soldiers and civilians during the First World War. The items offer a tangible connection to the past, allowing us to better understand the experiences of those who lived through this pivotal period in history.
