Bevelled wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 archival quality photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, the Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. This evocative portrait captures the scholarly and dignified presence of Archibald Bower, a Jesuit historian and librarian who served Queen Caroline, consort to King George II, in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Born in Scotland in 1686, Bower joined the Society of Jesus at the young age of 17 and dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge. He quickly gained a reputation as a brilliant scholar and was appointed as the librarian to Queen Caroline in 1722, a position he held until his death in 1766. During his tenure at the Queen's library, Bower played a pivotal role in the development of the royal collection, acquiring numerous rare and valuable books and manuscripts. He was also a prolific writer and historian, penning several important works on Scottish history and the lives of the Scottish saints.
