EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Liszt Collection showcases a remarkable piece of art titled "Vision Saint Jerome Asleep". In this engraving created by Giulio Bonasone, an Italian artist active in Rome and Bologna during the 16th century, we are transported into a mystical scene. At the bottom right corner of the composition, we find Saint Jerome peacefully asleep. His serene face reveals a deep sense of tranquility as he dreams. Just above him stands the Virgin Mary with her child, pointing towards John the Baptist. The interaction between these figures creates an ethereal atmosphere that captivates our imagination. The intricate details and delicate lines in this engraving highlight Bonasone's exceptional skill as an artist. Every stroke seems to breathe life into each character, evoking emotions and inviting contemplation. The original artwork was created after Parmigianino's masterpiece by Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola in Parma. This print serves as a testament to both artists' talents and their ability to convey profound spiritual themes through their work. As we gaze upon this enchanting print, we are reminded of the power of art to transport us beyond reality and into realms where dreams intertwine with divine visions. It is truly a treasure for any art enthusiast or collector who appreciates masterful craftsmanship combined with spiritual depth.
