EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print titled "View, Jan Saenredam, Anonymous, Cornelius Schonaeus" we are transported back in time to the 16th and 17th centuries. The image beautifully captures a scene that explores the concept of sight and the five senses. At first glance, our attention is drawn to a feminine figure standing before a mirror. Her delicate fingers gently caress her breast as she gazes into her own reflection. This intimate act of self-love and self-exploration evokes a sense of sensuality and vulnerability. The female personification in the photograph is accompanied by two men, Jan Saenredam and Cornelius Schonaeus. Their presence adds an intriguing layer to the narrative - are they observers or participants? Are their fingers also reaching out to touch or merely pointing towards something unseen? Quint Lox's composition skillfully captures both the physicality of touch and the power of visual perception. Through his lens, he invites us to contemplate themes such as desire, identity, and introspection. This print from Liszt Collection serves as a reminder that art has the ability to transcend time and spark conversations about human experiences that remain relevant today. It encourages viewers to explore their own relationship with themselves through their senses while appreciating how artists throughout history have grappled with these universal themes.
