The piece, measuring 37.9 x 60.9 cm, is an oil painting on plywood and bears the artist's signature, inscription, and date at the lower left corner: "Juan Gris, Paris 8-1917". Juan Gris was a renowned Spanish painter born in Madrid in 1887 and tragically passed away in Boulogne-sur-Seine/Hauts-de-Seine in 1927. His unique style and contribution to Cubism have solidified his place among influential artists of the early twentieth century. In this particular work, Gris masterfully combines elements of glass ("verre") and newspaper ("journal"), creating a visually striking composition that reflects his fascination with everyday objects. The interplay between transparent glass fragments and fragmented text from newspapers adds depth and complexity to the piece. The print captures every intricate detail of Gris' brushwork, allowing viewers to appreciate his meticulous technique up close.
