This print from the Liszt Collection showcases a remarkable three-quarter figure of a Sudanese man, taken in 1936. The subject, belonging to the Shiluki tribe, exudes an air of dignity and strength as he gazes directly into the camera lens. His traditional attire and intricate adornments provide a fascinating glimpse into his cultural heritage. The image transports us back in time to Malakal, a town located in present-day South Sudan. It captures not only the physical features of this individual but also offers insight into his character and way of life. The lines etched on his face tell stories of wisdom acquired through years of experience, while his eyes reflect resilience and determination.
