EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from the Liszt Collection, we are transported to a world of artistry and emotion. The image depicts a young man deeply engrossed in studying a painting, as he bends forward to kiss his hand in admiration. This intimate gesture reveals his profound connection with the artwork before him. The painting itself is titled "Departure of the Prodigal Son" now lost to time but immortalized through this graphite study by James Tissot, a renowned French artist from Nantes. Created between 1862-63 on pink paper heightened with white accents, the delicate details and subtle shades bring life to the composition. Measuring 9 1/2 x 12 1/16 inches (241 x 306 cm), this drawing captures both the physicality and emotional depth of its subject matter. The young man's contemplative expression hints at an inner journey mirroring that of the prodigal son himself - one filled with longing, reflection, and ultimately redemption. As we gaze upon this mesmerizing print by Artokoloro, we can't help but be drawn into its narrative power. It serves as a poignant reminder of how art has the ability to touch our souls and transport us across time and space.
