EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Liszt Collection showcases a remarkable artwork titled "Studies Soldiers Cart Horses 1830-75 Graphite (Artokoloro)". Created by the talented French artist Isidore Pils, this piece takes us on a journey through time and offers a glimpse into the lives of soldiers and their trusty cart horses during the period spanning from 1830 to 1875. The use of graphite and brown wash brings depth and texture to these stunning drawings, which measure approximately 10 x 12 1/8 inches or 255 x 310 cm. Pils' attention to detail is evident in every stroke, capturing not only the physical features of both soldiers and horses but also their emotions and interactions. Born in Paris in 1813, Pils was known for his exceptional ability to depict historical scenes with great accuracy. In this particular work, he transports us back to an era when cart horses played an integral role in military operations. The composition exudes strength and unity as soldiers are depicted alongside their loyal equine companions. As we admire this Artokoloro print, we can't help but appreciate how it serves as a testament to the invaluable contributions made by these noble animals throughout history. With Douarnenez serving as its final resting place after Pils' passing in 1875, this artwork continues to captivate viewers with its timeless beauty and historical significance.
