EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the incredible artwork of Ludolf Backhuysen, a renowned Dutch artist from the 17th century. Titled "Storm Sea 1701" this etching perfectly captures the raw power and beauty of a tumultuous sea during a storm. The attention to detail is remarkable, as every wave and gust of wind seems to come alive on the paper. Backhuysen's mastery in depicting maritime scenes is evident in this piece. The dark and moody atmosphere created by his skilled use of shading adds an element of drama to the scene. The viewer can almost feel the intensity of the storm, with waves crashing against each other and rain pouring down relentlessly. Measuring at 22 x 29.8 cm (8 11/16 x 11 3/4 in. ), this print allows us to appreciate Backhuysen's artistry up close. The platemark measures at 17.5 x 23.9 cm (6 7/8 x 9 7/16 in. ), highlighting the precision with which he executed his etching technique. As we gaze upon this stunning artwork, we are transported back in time to witness nature's fury through Backhuysen's eyes. This piece serves as a testament to his talent for capturing both the grandeur and danger that lie within our oceans.
