EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Liszt Collection showcases the exquisite artwork titled "St Lawrence 1650 Etching first state four Sheet" by Artokoloro. The print measures an impressive 4 1/8 by 3 7/16 inches (105 x 87 cm), allowing viewers to fully appreciate the intricate details of this masterpiece. The etching depicts St Lawrence, a revered figure in Christian history, after Adam Elsheimer's original work. This German artist, known for his exceptional talent, created this piece during his time in Frankfurt and Rome between 1578 and 1610. In the image, St Lawrence stands majestically on a hill looking towards the right. He holds a palm leaf in his left hand as a symbol of victory and martyrdom. In his other hand rests a gridiron, which represents the instrument of his torturous death. The composition is visually striking with its meticulous attention to light and shadow. The delicate lines etched onto the surface bring depth and texture to St Lawrence's figure while also capturing the surrounding landscape beautifully. Artokoloro has skillfully reproduced this remarkable artwork through their high-quality printing techniques, ensuring that every detail is faithfully preserved. This print serves as a testament to both Artokoloro's dedication to preserving art history and Elsheimer's enduring legacy as one of Germany's finest artists.
