EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Sketch Saint Gaudens Statue Deacon Samuel Chapin, a remarkable piece of art created by Artokoloro. The statue, located in Springfield, Massachusetts, dates back to 1887 and is made using pastel, charcoal, pencil on paper. Measuring 12 x 18 1/8 inches (305 x 46 cm), this drawing was skillfully crafted by Stanford White, an American artist from New York who lived between 1853 and 1906. The subject of this artwork is Deacon Samuel Chapin, a prominent figure in the city's history. A puritan dedicated to his community during the early settlement days of Springfield in the late 16th century until his death in 1675. This monument stands proudly at Stearns Square as a tribute to his legacy. The collaboration between Artokoloro and Saint Gaudens resulted in a custom-designed base for this bronze sculpture that perfectly complements its landscaped environment. The attention to detail captured within this sketch highlights both the artistic talent of Stanford White and the historical significance of Samuel Chapin. This print serves as a timeless reminder of our rich heritage and pays homage to those who laid the foundation for our present-day society. It invites viewers to reflect upon their roots while appreciating the beauty found within artistry and craftsmanship.
