His hand delicately holds a feather pen, symbolizing his mastery of writing and poetry. The initials "J Oudaan" are inscribed on the paper he writes upon, perhaps indicating that he was working on a collaboration or paying homage to another esteemed writer. The aged appearance of Van Hoogstraten's face suggests wisdom gained through experience. Behind him hangs an atlas, representing his fascination with geography and exploration. Above him stretches a firmament adorned with celestial bodies, alluding to his curiosity about the heavens and their mysteries.
