EDITORS COMMENTS
In this satirical drawing, we are transported to the world of an artist's studio. The scene depicts a talented artist diligently working on a portrait of an old lady. With pen in hand and gray ink at his disposal, he carefully brings out the intricate details of her face. His brush is dipped into various vibrant watercolors - brown, red, blue, yellow, and green - as he adds depth and life to the canvas. The artwork itself measures 10 7/8 x 15 7/16 inches (27.7 x 39.2 cm) and is adorned with delicate framing lines that enhance its overall composition. This particular piece has been attributed to Pietro Antonio Novelli, an Italian artist from Venice who lived between 1729 and 1804. As we observe this intriguing print from Artokoloro's Liszt Collection, we can't help but be drawn into the artist's world. Through his skillful hands and sharp wit, he manages to capture not only the physical features of his subject but also infuses it with subtle humor or social commentary typical of satirical art. This artwork serves as a testament to both the talent of Pietro Antonio Novelli and Artokoloro's commitment to preserving historical masterpieces for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
