Bevelled wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 archival quality photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, the Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. The artwork, created by Antonio Tempesta, an Italian artist from Florence, depicts a scene from the Roman-Batavian war that occurred in 69 AD. In this intense etching, we witness the arrest of Claudius Civilis and the brutal beheading of his brother Paulus. The Romans and Batavians are locked in a fierce struggle for power and control. This particular plate is part of the series "Romanorvm et Batavorvm Societas" published in 1611. The composition skillfully captures the emotions running high on both sides of the conflict. Tempesta's attention to detail brings life to each character, showcasing their anguish, determination, and despair. It is believed that this work was inspired by Otto van Veen's original design.
