EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Liszt Collection showcases an exquisite engraving titled "Juno asks Aeolus raise storm Trojan fleet set within". The artwork, created by Giulio Bonasone, an Italian artist active in Rome and Bologna during the 16th century, is a true masterpiece. The elaborate frame surrounding the engraving adds to its allure, drawing viewers into a world where love, rage, and jealousies collide. Juno, a powerful goddess of Roman mythology known for her beauty and cunning nature, is depicted here as she implores Aeolus to unleash a tempest upon the Trojan fleet. The intricate details captured in this print are truly remarkable. Every line etched by Bonasone brings life to each character's expression and gesture. The composition itself is filled with tension and drama as Juno's desires clash with fate. Measuring approximately 5 5/16 x 4 1/8 inches (13.5 x 10.5 cm), this print allows us to appreciate the artistry of Bonasone on a smaller scale while still capturing its grandeur. As we gaze upon this enchanting piece of art from centuries past, we can't help but be transported back in time to witness these mythological events unfold before our eyes. It serves as a reminder of both the timeless appeal of classical tales and the enduring power of artistic expression throughout history.
