EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print titled "Glaucus and Scylla" we are transported to a mythical world where love and danger intertwine. Painted by the talented French artist Laurent de La Hyre between 1640 and 1644, this oil on canvas masterpiece measures an impressive 146.1 x 118.1 cm. The scene depicts the tragic tale of Glaucus, a mortal who was transformed into a sea god after consuming a magical herb. In his newfound divine form, he falls deeply in love with Scylla, a beautiful nymph. However, their union is thwarted by fate as Scylla recoils in horror at Glaucus' monstrous appearance. La Hyre's skillful brushwork brings these characters to life with vibrant colors and intricate details. The delicate play of light and shadow adds depth to the composition, enhancing the emotional intensity of the moment captured on canvas. Displayed within its elegant frame measuring 163.8 x 135.9 x 7.6 cm, this artwork invites viewers to contemplate themes such as unrequited love, transformation, and the consequences of desire. As part of Liszt Collection's vast array of art prints from renowned artists throughout history, "Glaucus and Scylla" offers not only aesthetic pleasure but also serves as a reminder that even in mythology's realm, human emotions remain timeless subjects for artistic exploration.
