EDITORS COMMENTS
In this oil on canvas print titled "A Couple of Foxhounds with a Terrier, the property of Lord Henry Bentinck" we are transported to the world of British sporting art. Painted by William Barraud in 1810-1850, this exquisite piece showcases his exceptional talent for capturing the essence and beauty of animals. The focal point of the painting is a pair of majestic foxhounds, their sleek coats glistening under the warm sunlight. They stand proudly beside a Jack Russell terrier, displaying their loyalty and camaraderie as they belong to Lord Henry Bentinck. The dogs' expressive eyes seem to convey both intelligence and playfulness. Barraud's attention to detail is remarkable; he skillfully portrays every element that contributes to the hunting scene. From the hunter's costume complete with boots and stirrups, to the blanket draped over one hound's back and whip held firmly in hand - all these elements add depth and authenticity. The composition exudes an air of excitement and anticipation as if we have stumbled upon this lively moment during a hunt. It invites us into Lord Henry Bentinck's world where man and dog work together harmoniously in pursuit of their shared passion. This print from Liszt Collection allows us to appreciate Barraud's mastery at our leisure, reminding us why he remains one of Britain's most celebrated animal painters.
