EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Liszt Collection showcases a magnificent Broad-winged Buzzard, captured by the talented Canadian photographer William Notman in 1876. Born in Scotland but later settling in Montreal, Quebec, Notman's expertise behind the lens is evident in this stunning albumen silver print. The Broad-winged Buzzard takes center stage against a backdrop of lush foliage, its broad wings gracefully spread as if frozen mid-flight. The intricate details of its feathers are beautifully rendered, highlighting the bird's regal stature and commanding presence. Its piercing gaze seems to penetrate through the photograph, capturing our attention and leaving us captivated by its majestic aura. Notman's skillful composition transports us to Canada's picturesque landscapes, where these birds of prey can be found soaring high above forests and meadows. The contrast between light and shadow adds depth to the image while emphasizing the buzzard's impressive wingspan. As we admire this remarkable piece of artistry, let us appreciate both nature's wonders and human creativity that allows us to capture such fleeting moments forever. This print serves as a reminder of our planet's rich biodiversity and encourages us to cherish and protect it for generations to come.
