EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing artwork titled "Blessed Aloysius Gonzaga Ecstasy" by Anthony van Dyck, a renowned Flemish artist from Antwerp. Created around 1629 using brush and brown ink, this enlarged piece is a testament to Van Dyck's exceptional talent and attention to detail. The image captures Blessed Aloysius Gonzaga in a state of divine ecstasy, his face illuminated with serenity and spiritual fervor. The delicate lines drawn with pen in black ink bring out the ethereal quality of the scene, while the grey framing line adds depth and dimension to the composition. Measuring approximately 4 1/16 x 3 1/16 inches (103.78 cm), this drawing was completed by Pierre Jean Mariette, an esteemed collector and connoisseur of art during that era. The strips measuring only 7 mm wide further emphasize the intricate nature of Van Dyck's work. As you admire this remarkable print from Artokoloro's Liszt Collection, allow yourself to be transported back in time to witness the genius of one of history's greatest artists. Let your eyes wander through every stroke on paper as you appreciate Van Dyck's ability to capture not just physical likeness but also profound emotion within his subjects.
