EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Liszt Collection captures a moment in time that tells a story of industry and ambition. The etching, engraved by William Hogarth, showcases an industrious prentice who is ready to step out into the world as a married master. Beside him stands his daughter, symbolizing the legacy he hopes to leave behind. The image speaks volumes about the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving success. It serves as a reminder that idleness has no place in one's pursuit of greatness. Plate 6, dated September 30,1747, represents the third state of this remarkable artwork. Measuring at approximately 10 5/16 x 13 9/16 inches (262 x 344 cm), this print commands attention with its intricate details and powerful composition. As we gaze upon it, we are transported back to London during the late seventeenth century when Hogarth was creating his masterpieces. While commercial use may not be mentioned here, it is impossible to ignore the artistic value and historical significance that this print holds. It serves as a testament to Hogarth's talent and creativity while also reminding us of our own potential for growth and achievement.
