EDITORS COMMENTS
This print by Jonathan Bailey transports us back in time to the enchanting ruins of Finchale Priory. Standing proudly on the banks of the River Wear, this 13th century priory emanates an aura of mystery and tranquility. The image captures a mesmerizing view from across the river, showcasing the architectural marvels that have withstood centuries of history. The crumbling stone walls tell tales of a bygone era when religious devotion thrived within these sacred grounds. Nature has gracefully intertwined itself with the remnants of human craftsmanship, as vibrant greenery adorns every crevice, breathing life into this medieval relic. As we gaze upon this scene, our imagination takes flight, envisioning monks silently walking along these very paths centuries ago. The flowing waters of the River Wear mirror both the strength and serenity that once filled these hallowed halls. Jonathan Bailey's skillful composition allows us to appreciate not only the grandeur but also the delicate details that make up Finchale Priory's charm. Every archway and weathered stone bears witness to a rich tapestry woven through faith and dedication. This print serves as a poignant reminder that even in ruinous decay, there is beauty to be found.
