EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the picturesque Mevagissey Harbour in Cornwall, captured by Aerofilms Ltd in 1953. The aerial perspective allows us to appreciate the charming village nestled along the coastline, with its quaint cottages and narrow streets winding their way towards the bustling harbor. Victoria Pier stands proudly amidst this maritime scene, serving as a gateway for fishing vessels that have long been an integral part of Mevagissey's heritage. The harbor itself is alive with activity, as local fishermen go about their daily routines - mending nets, unloading catches, and preparing for another day at sea. The black and white tones of this photograph add a timeless quality to the image, enhancing our sense of nostalgia for a simpler era. It transports us to a time when life revolved around the ebb and flow of tides; where hardworking individuals relied on these waters not only for sustenance but also for their livelihoods. Preserved within Historic England Archive's collection, this remarkable snapshot offers a glimpse into Mevagissey's past while reminding us of its enduring charm today. As we gaze upon this historic treasure from above, we can't help but be captivated by the beauty and resilience of coastal communities like Mevagissey that have stood steadfast against the test of time.
