EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, titled "General view of sculpture - Cows, north of Monks Way" by James O. Davies, showcases the iconic Concrete Cows sculpture located in Monks Way, Bancroft, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. This intriguing work of art, created by the sculptor Jaume Plensa, is a beloved landmark of the area and a testament to the creative vision of Milton Keynes' early urban planners. The Concrete Cows, also known as "A Herd," were installed in 2009 as part of the town's 40th anniversary celebrations. The sculpture consists of a herd of 10 large, white, fiberglass cows with concrete faces, each one unique in expression and character. They are situated in a grassy area north of Monks Way, surrounded by lush greenery and providing a striking contrast between the organic and the industrial. The Concrete Cows have become a symbol of Milton Keynes' unique identity, drawing visitors from near and far. They serve as a reminder of the town's innovative approach to urban planning and its commitment to incorporating art into public spaces. This photograph by James O. Davies beautifully captures the essence of this sculpture, inviting us to ponder the meaning behind the cows' concrete faces and the role they play in the community. As we gaze upon this image, we are reminded of the power of art to inspire, provoke thought, and bring people together. The Concrete Cows are more than just a collection of sculptures; they are a source of pride, a conversation starter, and a reminder of the beauty that can be found in the most unexpected places.
