EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of The Village of Kineton in Warwickshire during the late 19th century. Taken between 1885 and 1887, this image provides a glimpse into the rich history and social fabric of rural England. The photograph showcases various landmarks that were integral to the village's identity at that time. The market place takes center stage, bustling with trade and activity, reflecting the economic importance of this small community. St Peter's Church stands tall, symbolizing the deep-rooted religious traditions that shaped daily life for its inhabitants. Adjacent to it is Wesleyan chapel, another significant religious institution serving its faithful followers. The Steam Corn Mill stands as a testament to industrial progress encroaching upon traditional countryside landscapes. Meanwhile, the Manor House exudes grandeur and elegance amidst its picturesque surroundings. A map accompanies this photo print, providing an invaluable resource for understanding Kineton's geographical layout and historical context. It highlights key features such as River Dene meandering through lush greenery and quaint streets lined with charming houses. This remarkable piece belongs to "British Maps and Map-Makers" by Edward Lynam published in London in 1944 under William Collins' imprint. Its inclusion in "Britain in Pictures" series signifies its significance as a visual representation of British history. Overall, this evocative print transports us back to a bygone era when tradition intertwined with progress defined life in The Village of Kineton.
