EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the timeless beauty of Jeanne Labrousse's "Madonna and Child" masterpiece, created in 1918. The image showcases a close-up view of the Madonna, depicted in vibrant blue attire that symbolizes her purity and devotion. With a gentle expression on her face, she cradles the child Jesus in her arms, radiating maternal love and tenderness. Labrousse's attention to detail is evident in every aspect of this artwork. The golden accents adorning both figures add an ethereal touch, highlighting their divine nature. A halo above the Madonna's head signifies her sacred status as the Virgin Mary while cherubic angels surround them, creating an atmosphere of heavenly bliss. The composition is framed within an arched backdrop that adds depth and grandeur to the scene. Both figures are barefoot, emphasizing their humility and closeness to nature. The richly textured cloak worn by the Madonna further enhances her regal presence. Published in Studio Volume 73 by London Offices of The Studio in 1918, this print exemplifies Labrousse's mastery as an artist during the early 20th century. Its gilded aesthetic reflects a time when religious art held great significance within Christian communities. As we gaze upon this portrait today, we are reminded of Labrousse's ability to capture not only physical likeness but also spiritual essence through color and form. This remarkable piece continues to inspire awe and reverence for its depiction of motherly love intertwined with divinity
