EDITORS COMMENTS
The Imperial Crown of King George V, c1911, is a magnificent and historically significant artifact that represents the rich tradition and pageantry of the British monarchy. This image, from "The Coronation Book" published by Stewart Dawson & Company, Ltd. in London, offers a detailed view of the crown, which was used during the coronation of King George V on June 22, 1911, at Westminster Abbey. The Imperial Crown is a stunning example of intricate craftsmanship, adorned with precious stones and jewels. At its center is a cross formed of gold and set with rubies, sapphires, and pearls. The arches of the crown are decorated with strands of pearls, alternating with diamonds and emeralds. The velvet cap, which covers the crown when not in use, is trimmed with ermine fur. The Imperial Crown is part of the British Crown Jewels, which are housed in the Tower of London. It was made for the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911, and is a symbol of the monarch's power and authority. The crown was also worn by the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, during his investiture in 1911, and by Queen Elizabeth II during her coronation in 1953. This print, produced by Stewart Dawson & Company, Ltd., offers a unique and up-close look at the Imperial Crown, allowing viewers to appreciate the intricate details and the beauty of this historic and precious object. The image captures the essence of a royal event, filled with tradition, pageantry, and the rich materials of the time, including velvet, textiles, and precious stones.
