EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the early 1900s in Escuintla, Guatemala. The city's twin volcanoes, Fuego and Acatenango, majestically rise in the distance, creating a breathtaking backdrop for this cityscape. Captured on a stereoscopic card, every detail of this scene is brought to life. The image showcases the charm of a bygone era with its 19th-century buildings dotting the landscape. From rooftops to intricate architecture, each structure tells a story of history and culture. As clouds gracefully float above, they add an element of drama to the already stunning view. The photographer skillfully captures not only the physical beauty but also conveys a sense of place through this monochrome masterpiece. It transports us into another time and allows us to appreciate both the natural wonders and human-made structures that make up Escuintla. Although we do not know who exactly created this work of art or when it was taken precisely, it remains an invaluable piece that preserves the essence of Guatemala's geography and heritage. This print serves as a reminder that even amidst changing times, some things remain constant – like the enduring presence of Fuego and Acatenango overlooking Escuintla's ever-evolving cityscape.
