EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the late 19th century, showcasing one of the three magnificent craters of Poas volcano in Costa Rica. The image is a stunning engraving from Universal Geography, Maps & Illustrations, Vol XXXIV, published by Virtue & Co Limited in London around 1890. The monochrome landscape captures the raw beauty and power of this geographical feature. Towering mountains surround the crater, creating a dramatic backdrop against which its immense size becomes apparent. The water within the crater reflects the serene atmosphere while hinting at its volcanic origins. Costa Rica's central location in Central America has blessed it with numerous natural wonders like Poas volcano. This print allows us to appreciate not only its grandeur but also serves as a testament to human curiosity and exploration during that era. Attributed to an unknown creator, this historical piece offers a glimpse into how landscapes were documented and appreciated before modern photography techniques emerged. Preserved by The Print Collector collection, it stands as a valuable record of our planet's diverse geography. As we admire this remarkable print today, let us be reminded of both nature's awe-inspiring creations and humanity's enduring fascination with them.
