EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Brook Trout Fishing in 19th century America. Published in 1862 by Currier & Ives, this Colour Lithograph transports us back to a time when fishing was not just a hobby but an art form. The image depicts a serene river scene where anticipation hangs thick in the air. A skilled angler, poised with his fly fishing rod, stands at the water's edge patiently waiting for his prized catch. The vibrant colours of the lithograph bring to life the lush surroundings and crystal-clear waters that teem with brook trout. In this historical snapshot, we glimpse into the lives of settlers who relied on their hunting and fishing skills for sustenance. The hunter's keen eye is evident as he carefully observes every movement beneath the surface. His spear is ready should he need to swiftly stab his prey. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this print from Heritage Images represents more than just a recreational activity; it symbolizes resilience and self-sufficiency during a transformative era in American history.
