EDITORS COMMENTS
This lithograph print showcases the majestic Texas jackrabbit, a subspecies of the black-tailed jackrabbit found in the American Southwest. Created by John Woodhouse Audubon and featured in John James Audubon's renowned work "Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America" this artwork beautifully captures the essence of this wild creature. The image transports us to a mid-19th century scene where the rabbit stands tall on its hind legs amidst lush grass and rugged terrain. Its fur is meticulously detailed, showcasing its distinctive markings and texture. The rabbit's long ears are alert, while its keen eyes survey its surroundings with curiosity and caution. The artist skillfully portrays the jackrabbit's powerful physique as it balances on one paw, ready to flee at any moment. Its tail gracefully extends behind it, adding an element of grace to its otherwise robust appearance. Through this lithograph print, we gain insight into Audubon's passion for zoology and his dedication to capturing the beauty of North America's diverse wildlife. This artwork serves as a testament to both nature's grandeur and human artistic talent.
