EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases George Calvert, a prominent figure in American history. Known as the 1st Baron Baltimore, he was an English proprietor who played a significant role in the colonization of America. The image is a copy of a painting by Daniel Mytens, an accomplished artist from the 17th century. In this portrait, Lord Baltimore stands tall and proud, exuding nobility and authority. His distinguished appearance is highlighted by his well-groomed beard and goatee, along with his meticulously styled moustache. Clad in elegant attire befitting his status as a nobleman, he commands attention with his confident stance. George Calvert's contribution to American history cannot be understated. As the founder of Maryland colony (named after Queen Henrietta Maria), he established one of the first successful English settlements in North America. His vision for religious tolerance attracted many colonists seeking refuge from persecution.
