EDITORS COMMENTS
This line engraving from the 19th century showcases the exquisite beauty of a Numbat, scientifically known as Myrmecobius fasciatus. The intricate details and delicate lines in this print bring to life the unique features of this fascinating creature. The Numbat, also referred to as the banded anteater, is a small marsupial native to Western Australia. Its distinctive markings, depicted with precision in this engraving, consist of reddish-brown fur adorned with white stripes across its back and rump. With its slender body and bushy tail, it exudes an air of elegance. As we admire this artwork, we are transported back in time to an era when zoology was rapidly evolving as a scientific discipline. This engraving serves not only as a visual delight but also as a valuable historical artifact that sheds light on our understanding of biology during the 19th century. Granger Art on Demand has once again curated an exceptional piece that captures both aesthetic appeal and educational value. Through their collection, they provide us with glimpses into different periods of art history while celebrating the wonders of nature.
